Vitaminwater® – From Startup to National brand

This hard work paid off. By the end of 2000, Vitaminwater sales reached $12 million. Vitaminwater and its parent company, Glacéau®, joined the Coca Cola® family of products in 2007, and from 2004 to 2008, the company has experienced exponential growth, with revenues increasing 100-fold. DI Graphics has been on Vitaminwater’s branding team since the startup years.
The Challenge- Maximizing Brand Reach
In the late nineties, Vitaminwater began working with larger distributors and started to penetrate new markets. The fledgling company soon recognized that it needed to increase its visibility if it hoped to grow market share. At the same time, a large portion of the organization’s resources were tied up with the increasing demands of operational commitments.
Once the product did catch on with consumers, it took off at breakneck speed. Again, company leaders realized the importance of strategic marketing in effectively steering vitaminwater’s brand growth.
The Solution- Mobile Branding as Key Component of Integrated Marketing Campaign
Vitaminwater’s partnership with DI Graphics began in 2001. Since then, DI has supported the company as it has developed from an independent startup with a limited regional identity to nationally-recognized brand that is part of the Coca Cola family of products.
DI found creative ways to help stretch Vitaminwater’s early marketing budget in its quest to meet ambitious sales objectives. The first project was a modest set of point-of-sale graphics for application to in-store beverage coolers. In 2001, Vitaminwater worked with DI to roll out its first truck graphics campaign. Several years later, when the company embarked on a guerilla marketing blitz in large U.S. markets, it tapped DI for mobile branding solutions.
The campaign was dreamed up by Vitaminwater’s in-house creative department, which was recently honored with an award from Advertising Age. Dramatic photos spotlighted more than 25 celebrity athletes and musicians — Shaquille O’Neill, Donovan McNabb, 50 Cent, Carrie Underwood and more — accompanied by punchy copy playing up their talents.
Vitaminwater recognized that extension of this message to fleet graphics would play an important role in any integrated marketing campaign, accelerating the buzz built through other media. DI adapted each creative concept to maximize viewer impact, eventually wrapping more than 1,000 delivery trucks in a wide range of styles and sizes — box trucks, side loaders, straight trailers and a variety of van models.

Royal Crest Dairy has been a Denver institution for 90 years, delivering milk, cheese and other wholesome products to families across the metro area. Unfortunately, the company’s panel trucks were immediately recognizable not just from their distinctive crest logo, but by their dated appearance.
